Wines from the Middle Ages: Ippocrasso

With Uvamatris came back in the Middle Ages preparing Ippocrasso, a spicy wine of medieval origin.


  • 1 liter of Uvamatris Red Wine
  • 100 g. of Honey
  • 3 Cinnamon Sticks
  • a teaspoon of Powder Ginger
  • 5 Cardamom crushed capsules
  • 3 or 4 cloves
  • a pinch of nutmeg


Crush the whole spices in a mortar. Pour the wine, the honey, the spices in a bowl with an airtigh stopper and let stand for 24 hours. Uvamatris recommends to serve Ippocrasso as aperitif or as digestive, to end the meal.
